Afternoon Enrichment Activities Program
The Barn School (TBS) Enrichment Activities Program provides focused afternoon learning and wellness opportunities until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for children enrolled in grades K-6. We provide these activities as part of our school day for students wishing to do full days at TBS, and we welcome community members beginning at 3:15. On Tuesdays, we welcome community members at 2:15 when Westford Elementary School has early dismissal.
Our Afternoons Include:
★ Snack (provided by The Barn School)
★ Outdoor play time
★ Themed subjects (Note: your child will not be required to participate in these specific activities.)
★ Time for quiet reading or a shared read-aloud book and open play
Please note that our enrichment activities designed and crafted to offer specific experiences and learning opportunities for students in subjects they might not otherwise focus on during the typical school day. We recognize that many children have already been through a long day, and we will not be supporting, monitoring, or encouraging students to do homework while with us. Our goal is to help children grow and discover new things in an environment that values childhood and recognizes the need to for play as an integral aspect for learning.
To register for our Enrichment Activities Program, complete a separate registration form for each child. The registration is a binding agreement which commits you to pay for the days indicated. To change or discontinue this agreement, please contact Kara directly. Changes will go into effect the first of the month following receipt of your change form (unless a later month is indicated). If a need arises for additional care during the current month, you may sign up for drop-in days.
We offer afternoon enrichment on all days The Barn School is open for a regular school day. You may sign your child up for as many days as you would like, and the price is as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: $25 per day
Tuesday: $35 per day (early dismissal from Westford Elementary at 2 pm)
Full Week Discounted rate: $125 per week
To secure a spot for the 2018-2019 school year, a $50 non-refundable deposit is required. Deposit will be applied to the final payment at the end of the school year. Applications will not be considered complete until deposit, registration form, yearly health form, and immunization records have been received.
We expect students to show respect, kindness, and compassion in their interactions with one another, the space, the teachers, and themselves. We will practice and model these traits, and we will ensure that students are being good citizens, positive members of our community, and good stewards of the school.
There are four payment options for space in our Enrichment Activities Program:
(1) weekly payments to TBS, due prior to the week of care
(2) bi-weekly payments to TBS, due prior to the start of each two-week period
(3) monthly payments to TBS prior to the month of care (can be combined with full-day tuition plan for those attending TBS full day); or
(4) single annual payment for duration of the school year.
Payment is not adjusted for absences, illness, or emergency closures. In order to hold your child’s spot, payment for a full month of enrollment must be maintained.
The Afternoon Enrichment Program will be closed on all days when the Barn School is closed, unless otherwise noted. We will also be closed on any days that Westford Elementary School is closed as part of its calendar or due to emergency closings.
We are happy to have your child attend additional days or try out a day before committing to it for a longer time frame. We will only be able to offer that drop-in care if the program has not reached its maximum daily capacity. To sign up for a drop-in day contact Kara or speak directly with the Afternoon Enrichment teacher. Payment for drop-in days will be assessed at the end of the billing cycle you selected. For instance, if you are paying monthly, your drop-in days will be included in the invoice for the next month.
Late Pick-Up Fee
The parent or guardian is liable for a $10 late fee per child for up to the first 15 minutes when arriving at TBS after 5:30 p.m. After 5:45, it is $1 per minute. These fees will be assessed bi-weekly.
Our schedule is based on different topics and enrichment opportunities each day. Within those topics, we will have a different focus broken into smaller units.
Topics from 2019-2020 school year, for sample purposes:
MONDAY: Mix-It-Up: Making play-doh, slime, ooblek, etc.
TUESDAY: Arts & Crafts
THURSDAY: Harvest of the Month: Cooking
FRIDAY: Teacher's Choice
You are welcome to enroll your child(ren) at any time and do not need to wait until the beginning of a month to enroll. Each day is typically its own stand-alone lesson, and those lessons are focused around a common skill or activity during the unit within the broader thematic category. When we do have projects that span multiple weeks, opportunities will be made available for children to participate at any stage.
We reserve the right to change topics based on teacher availability, preference, and area of expertise. All changes will be communicated at least two weeks in advance.
NOTE: Completed Applications require the registration form, yearly health form, permission form, non-refundable $50 deposit, and the most current immunization record for your child.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application or for additional information.
